Photo contest entries rolling in - deadline is October 15th

Team Power Smart members new and old are pulling out all the F-stops, pardon the pun, in an effort to win this year's grand prize of a Nikon Digital SLR photo package.
And there are some inspired entries so far. I'm not one of the judges, but among my faves is the shot in this post of a bunch of household garbage tossed in the long grass.
Why that particular entry? While it has little to do with electricity waste — other than the electricity used to produce all that thrown-away paper and plastic — it perfectly illustrates what Power Smart is saying in our current campaign. If something like litter is so easily understood to be ridiculous waste, why do so many of us not consider electricity waste in the same way.
Yes, our electricity in B.C. is among the most affordable in North America — and a fraction of the price you'd pay in a place like Denmark — but that doesn't make it any less valuable. And it's just a little embarrassing that Canadians rank as among the highest per-capita electricity users on the globe — even ahead of the U.S.
Got a camera and and idea of what waste looks like to you? Enter the Team Power Smart Photo Contest by October 15 and you'll have a shot at the grand prize of a Nikon D7000 digital SLR camera package. But if you haven't already, you'll need to join Team Power Smart.
And it's not bad finishing in the top 10. The nine runners-up will get a $100 gift certificate to London Drugs, a copy of the engaging board game, Earthopoly and tickets to the Royal BC Museum and gallery.
The 10 shortlisted pictures will be showcased on bchydro.com and will be on display during an upcoming exhibition at the Royal BC Museum. The grand prize-winning photograph will also be featured in print ads and London Drugs locations in British Columbia.
