Team Power Smart member wins $1,000 efficiency package

Posted by Jennifer Maniezzo

Another Team Power Smart member is being rewarded for their commitment to conservation. Courtenay resident Paul Sutter has been named a winner of the BC Hydro Home Energy Contest and was rewarded with a $1,000 energy efficient prize package.

Paul was at the Sears in Nanaimo where he visited the BC Hydro Outreach booth and entered the contest. After finding out what Team Power Smart was all about he was happy to get on board.

"It's great to see a program, like Team Power Smart, which helps people conserve," said Paul. "I'm always looking for ways to be more energy efficient and I'm happy to adopt new technology and actions to help me achieve my goals."

A first-class example of how simple changes can make a big difference, Paul is working hard to get his family involved in the conservation effort. As a family, the Sutters are already very good about turning off the lights and reducing the amount of water they use.

Although Paul is still working on getting his 10-year-old son to take shorter showers, the behavioural changes they have implemented into their daily routine are already helping them save on their energy bills.

Prizes add efficiency to home

With the prize contents officially installed in their home last week, the Sutters are receiving an extra helping hand to reach their energy goals. The prize package includes a programmable thermostat, water-saving showerhead, energy efficient lighting, draftproofing, faucet aerators and pipe insulation.

The items, provided by Ecofitt and Honeywell, were installed in Paul's home by Nanaimo contractor Ben Labbe from the Shell Busey HouseSmart Referral Network.

Of all the prizes, Paul is most excited about the programmable thermostats. The Sutters were always really good about turning the temperature down when they left the house and keeping unused rooms cool, but now they won't have to think about it. The same goes for the new programmable power bars Paul received which will allow him to set a timer to turn his appliances completely off.

So what are you waiting for? If the Sutters can do it, you can too! Join Team Power Smart and start receiving information about ways to make your home more energy efficient. With Power Smart Month just days away and lots of rebates and incentives to help you with your energy saving goals, there's never been a better time to start.
