BC Hydro files revenue requirement application with commission

VANCOUVER – BC Hydro today filed a revenue requirement application [PDF, 29.2 Mb] with the British Columbia Utilities Commission for fiscal year 2011.

BC Hydro is proposing a general rate increase of 6.11 per cent and is also proposing to increase the deferral account rate rider by three per cent. These increases are proposed to be effective on an interim and refundable basis on April 1, 2010.

The BCUC must approve BC Hydro’s proposed rate change, and will conduct a public review of BC Hydro’s application. A final decision is expected in the fall. If approved, BC Hydro customers will continue to enjoy electricity rates that are among the lowest in North America.

Similar to previous filings, the application includes details of BC Hydro’s ongoing capital reinvestments in the province’s electricity infrastructure. This $1.77 billion plan for fiscal 2011 includes work on the Gordon M. Shrum generating station, the Revelstoke generating station, the Cheakamus dam, the Fort Nelson generating station, and the Mica generating station, as well as ongoing investments in the province’s transmission and distribution systems.
