With schools closed and kids at home, we're here to help

Keep your kids learning, thinking and growing with Power Smart for Schools, our online hub of energy-focused education resources. We have more than 80 free, curriculum-aligned activities for K to 12 students.

Whether you're a seasoned teacher or a parent helping your child learn, each activity comes with easy-to-follow instructions and can be adapted to your current teaching environment, at home or in the class. Here are four popular activities that are easy to do at home.

Energy stretch: K to Grade 2

Kids follow along with a fun video to learn how we use the power of water to make electricity. Think about electricity in your own home, then draw pictures of ways to save electricity.

Explore potential and kinetic energy by building a marble run using scrap materials at home. Can your kids (and you) predict what will make a marble go further?

Power's out! Surviving three days without electricity: Grade 6 to 7

Learn what to do before, during and after a power outage, which can happen at any time. Brainstorm what life would be like without power for up to three days. Remember that in a power outage, you may be left without heat, light, hot water and the ability to use or charge electronic devices.
