Whitecaps FC and BC Hydro team up to support kids across B.C.

The teamwork that recently helped Vancouver Whitecaps FC to their longest ever Major League Soccer unbeaten streak is equally vital off the pitch.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC works with partners to share their passion for soccer with communities throughout British Columbia. And BC Hydro is proud to help the 'Caps accomplish their goals off the pitch by supporting the team's kids' soccer camps with an onsite presence and giveaways for participants. BC Hydro also supports the Captain's Kids Club at BC Hydro Family Matches.

Soccer provides many benefits to people of all ages, but especially for children and young adults. "Soccer allows youth to have fun, learn about life skills such as communication and working with others, while helping them create lifelong friendships," says Rachel Lewis, Vancouver Whitecaps FC's Chief Operating Officer.

Skills camps offer a chance to learn from the pros

Soccer is fun and engaging for anyone once you learn the basics of the game. That's the beauty of Whitecaps FC's skills camps.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC is bringing their skills camps to kids in communities across the province. At a skills camp, children aged six to thirteen can learn the moves that pros use with special instruction from Whitecaps FC coaches. Participants also get a chance to meet 'Caps players and the mascot, Spike.

Not only do participants learn all about soccer from the pros, but they also get expert advice on how to be Power Smart. BC Hydro's community team attends camps to share their tips on how to save energy. By the end of the camp, kids will know the soccer moves to win games and the energy saving moves to make at home.

Check to see if Whitecaps FC will be in your community for a skills camp this summer and register your child for a fun week of soccer.

Captain's Kids Club provides youth with an unforgettable Whitecaps experience

Vancouver Whitecaps FC and BC Hydro recognize youth-focused charity organizations through the BC Hydro Captain's Kids Club. "The BC Hydro Captain's Kids Club provides a unique opportunity to those that would not otherwise be able to attend a 'Caps match," says Whitecaps FC's Lewis. "It helps create lasting memories for kids, while also inspiring them as they see their heroes and role models up close."

During BC Hydro Family Matches, Captain's Kids Club participants are recognized at the match with special VIP treatment. The experience includes tickets to the match, an exclusive pitch-side view of the warm up, and the opportunity to high five the players before the match.

Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA) participated in the Captain's Kids Club at the BC Hydro Family Match on June 15. "UNYA uses sports and recreation as a way to give our youth a sense of belonging and mastery over themselves," says Catherine Rana, UNYA's mentorship program coordinator. "

As Whitecaps FC fans and recreational soccer players, participants from UNYA who attended the match were treated to an unforgettable experience.

"These youth had never been to a 'Caps game before, let alone had the opportunity to go down onto the pitch and see a match from VIP seats," says Rana."They had an amazing time."
