BC Transmission Corporation, BC Hydro become one

Posted by Susan Danard

One of the important elements of the Clean Energy Act is that BC Hydro and the British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) will be joined into a single organization – effective today, July 5.

This will enable us to utilize the talent of both organizations as we will play an integral role in fulfilling the mandate of the act to provide clean, reliable electricity to meet the growing energy needs of British Columbians.

As part of our integration with BCTC, we have migrated some transmission website content on the BC Hydro website and provided helpful links to projects, regulatory and other transmission content on a BC Hydro Transmission microsite.

The media and the public can also find archived BCTC news releases on And we have some important information for former BCTC vendors and suppliers.

Media calling with an inquiry about transmission projects or issues formerly handled by BCTC should now call the BC Hydro Media Relations team. See contact information at the top right-hand corner of the Media Centre page.

It’s a tall marching order, but BC Hydro’s media relations department remains committed to keeping the public informed as we move forward on a number of major capital projects, including new transmission lines, generating projects and smart meters.

Watch for updates on these projects in the coming months on this Media Centre. For more information on the integration of the BCTC with BC Hydro, see the Clean Energy Act backgrounder Strengthening BC Hydro [PDF, 293 Kb].
