Customer vault maintenance and isolations

If you're a BC Hydro commercial customer whose building is served by an electrical vault we have dedicated teams available to assist customers with vault isolations or maintenance of these types of electrical vaults.

Dual Radial Vault

Buildings that are supplied by underground vaults served by two separate distribution circuits-one 'running' circuit and one 'standby' circuit – are a part of our Dual Radial Vault system. We, along with WorkSafeBC, require customers who own or manage Dual Radial Vaults to perform mandatory maintenance on the switches of both the running and standby circuits every 42 months. We provide pre-determined maintenance windows each year to help you to schedule this work. This maintenance is performed by an electrical contractor of your choosing. If this maintenance is not completed, our crews will be unable to enter the vault to restore power in the event of a power outage.

For more information on this type of required maintenance, or if you would like to schedule DRV maintenance, please email DRVSupport@bchydro.com.You may also find valuable information in the Dual Radial Vault Information Bulletin [PDF, 192 KB].

Single Primary Vault Outage Requests

If your building has electrical vault rooms that are fed from a single primary circuit, we recommend performing maintenance on the electrical vault every 3 to 5 years. This maintenance is performed by an electrical contractor of your choosing. In order for the maintenance to safely take place, our crew is required to complete a vault isolation. A vault isolation request form is required to schedule an outage and we require 21 days notice. We also accept outage requests for customer equipment replacement work such as electrical switches.

For more information on this type of request, or if you would like to submit a voltage outage request, please email VOR@bchydro.com.

Guarantee of Isolation

This type of isolation applies to large buildings that have an existing operating order with us. A guarantee of isolation is required when maintenance is going to be performed on your building's vault. This maintenance is performed by an electrical contractor of your choosing. The isolation is coordinated through our Control Centre and requires a minimum of 5 days’ notice (unless otherwise specified in the operating order).

For more information on this type of request, or if you would like to schedule a guarantee of isolation, please email us at GOI@bchydro.com.
