Pre-authorized payment is a convenient, fast and secure way to pay your bill directly from your bank account. Automatic payment ensures your payment will be on time, every time, even when you're away.
You will continue to receive your bill monthly or bi-monthly to track your meter readings, usage and charges. The amount you owe will automatically be drawn from your account.
Set up a pre-authorized payment online
You'll need your bank account details (found on your cheques):
Transit number
Institution number
Account number
To set up a new pre-authorized payment:
If you have one account – select "Set up" beside Pre-Authorized Payments, as indicated below. (If you have more than one account first select "Edit account" to access the appropriate account):
Enter your bank account details.
Select a payment withdrawal date (4, 7, 14 or 21 days after you are billed).
Accept the terms & conditions, and submit the form.
To edit or cancel existing pre-authorized payments:
If you're signed up for pre-authorized payments through your credit card, you must cancel this option before you sign up for pre-authorized payments from your bank account*.
Select "Cancel" beside pre-authorized payments in the billing preferences section and complete the cancellation. (If you have more than one account first select "Edit account" to access the appropriate account):
*If you are currently signed-up for pre-authorized bank account payments, you can edit your bank account details or payment withdrawal date. You can also cancel pre-authorized payments.
Submit by mail
If you have not registered your BC Hydro account online, you can apply by filling in the pre-authorized payment form[PDF, 78 Kb] and mailing it to the address below for processing.
