Your Residential Bill Explained

Please see the back of your bill for more information.

  1. Your name and service address.
  2. Date the bill was issued.
  3. Payment due date. Pay your bill by this date to avoid a late charge of 1.5% per month on unpaid amounts of $30 or more.
  4. Your account number(s). If you have more than one service location (e.g. a summer cabin), each location will have a separate account number.
  5. Amount owing, which is the current charges plus any outstanding balances from previous bills.
  6. Invoice number.
  7. Your meter's identification number and the meter readings at the start and end of the billing period. The difference between the two readings is the amount of electricity used. Note the number of days between meter readings may vary. More meter reading information.
  8. Approximate date of the next scheduled meter reading.
  9. Comparison of daily average usage per billing period with previous periods.
  10. Number to call for questions about your bill.
  11. Amount due on your previous bill and payment(s) received.
  12. Your current electric charges. This includes a basic charge, which partially recovers the fixed costs of service, and a usage charge for the electrical energy consumed.
  13. A Rate Rider of 2% is applied to the total of all charges, before taxes and levies.
  14. In the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD), BC Hydro collects a transit levy on behalf of Greater Vancouver Transit Authority.
  15. Your current charges plus any outstanding balances from previous bills.
  16. Bill message. Check this area for important information about BC Hydro.
  17. Detachable part of the bill. Write the amount that you are paying under “Amount Paid” and return with your payment.
