How do I stop service at my old address and start service at my new address?
If you are moving within BC Hydro's territory, use the transfer account form.

How much advance notice do you need to open, close or transfer an account?
We require a minimum of 24 hours notice of your move. Two weeks notice is preferable.

Are there any other fees I should know about?
If you are moving or opening a new account there is a $12.40 +GST account charge for Hydro.

Do I have to pay a deposit?
A security deposit is required:

  • When a new customer has no credit history with us or
  • We cannot conduct an Equifax credit check, or
  • An Equifax check shows the customer is a credit risk, or
  • The customer cannot provide a reference letter from another utility

The deposit amount is based on:

  • the customer’s billing plan
  • two times the estimated average monthly bill
  • or dwelling averages where no historical consumption exists.

If you are not able to pay the deposit all at once, we can set up an installment plan to assist with repayment of the deposit.

We hold onto the security deposit until the customer has demonstrated satisfactory payment history for one year. During that time, we pay interest on the deposit, calculated monthly.

Do you take a final reading of my meter?
A BC Hydro meter reader will take a final reading. Where that's not possible, it will be estimated from the last reading.
