Windows label with qualification map

All windows, except those with solid wood frames, are now required to be tested to meet the BC Energy Efficiency Act. A permanent label containing a registered trademark or certification organization symbol is required to verify the window.

As of June 1, 2009, look for the removable label that indicates the regulated U-value of 2.0 or less. U-value is an overall heating loss rating - the lower the U-value, the more efficient the window.

Benefits of ENERGY STAR-labelled windows

ENERGY STAR-labelled windows are an excellent long-term investment in comfort and value for your family and home because they can:

  • Increase comfort by keeping your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
  • Protect your valuables from sun damage and fading.
  • Reduce condensation and outside noise.
  • Lower your bill by reducing heating costs.

What's more, you can rely on ENERGY STAR-labelled windows because they are certified by an independently accredited agency for their quality and energy performance.

For more information on ENERGY STAR-labelled windows, talk to your local window contractor or retailer or read the windows and doors h.e.l.p. sheet [PDF, 100 Kb].

ENERGY STAR is an international symbol that identifies manufacturers' products as the most energy-efficient in their category. It is a simple way to quickly identify the most energy-efficient product when evaluating your purchase decision.

You can identify ENERGY STAR-labelled windows in three ways:

  1. Ask your local window contractor or salesperson for ENERGY STAR labelled windows.
  2. Go to Natural Resources Canada's website to find model numbers of all ENERGY STAR labelled windows qualified under the Canadian criteria.
  3. Look for the ENERGY STAR label. Most ENERGY STAR qualified windows are visibly labelled with the ENERGY STAR label such as the one below.
