How to apply for a rebate

Please Note: The ENERGY STAR specification for residential clothes washers changed on July 1st, 2009. New specifications for ENERGY STAR qualified residential clothes washers and residential-style commercial clothes washers are as follows:

Save energy and the environment

You will benefit from using less energy, reducing your energy bill and contributing to positive environmental impacts. Look for the ENERGY STAR label on appliances; it identifies the most energy-efficient appliances.

ENERGY STAR clothes washers

  • Use 35% less energy than standard models.
  • Use 30–50% less water than standard models.
  • Spin two to three times faster than standard models during the spin cycle and extract more water, which means less time and energy is used in the dryer.

ENERGY STAR refrigerators and freezers

  • Use 10–20% less energy than standard models.
  • Have high efficiency compressors, improved insulation (in doors and exterior walls), more precise temperatures and defrost controls.

How to apply for a mail-in rebate

Step 1: Choose one of two application form options. With both options, you'll need to print the form, sign it and mail it in. The online version saves time and is designed to speed up delivery of the rebate.

Step 2: Submitting your completed rebate form.

  1. Sign your rebate application form.
  2. Attach copies of all invoices or receipts showing the appliance purchase.
  3. Submit your application within 90 days of the appliance purchase to:

    Surrey B.C., V3T 5W4

The appliance must be purchased and ordered between January 15, 2008 and March 31, 2010, or until program funding is exhausted. A rebate cheque is generally mailed within 8-10 weeks. Only one application for each appliance type (i.e. clothes washer, refrigerator and freezer) will be accepted per household per customer. Customer must be a BC Hydro or City of New Westminster residential customer. The appliance must be installed in a residential dwelling within the BC Hydro or City of New Westminster service areas.
