Wetlands Enhancement

Objective

To maintain, conserve, and enhance wetlands for the numerous wildlife species that rely on or us these unique habitats.

Study area

Various wetlands in the Parsnip River drainage.

Methods

Techniques used at a site were dependent on the objective for the site, but techniques included creating a permanent water-control structure to maintain or conserve a wetland's integrity, obtaining special management designation for the wetland, conducting level-ditching to create nesting and foraging habitat, conducting prescribed burns to increase forage availability, and erecting artificial nesting structures (nest boxes and floating islands).
