Canada Goose Moulting Surveys

Objective

To identify sites along the foreshore of the Williston Reservoir that are used by moulting and brood-rearing Canada geese in order to direct future enhancement and conservation activities.

Study area

Foreshore areas of the Finlay and Parsnip Reaches, Williston Reservoir.

Methods

Using a helicopter, surveys of the reservoir foreshore were conducted twice during the geese moulting period (early to mid-July). The surveys were separated by ~10 days to assess the influence of reservoir water-levels on the spatial distribution of geese using the reservoir foreshore. Surveys were also conducted in 2 different years to assess annual variation.

Study period July 1999 and 2000
