Upland Furbearer Problem Analysis

Objective

To compile background information that will assist in the selection of a study species and the development of a sound and comprehensive upland furbearer proposal for the Williston Reservoir watershed.

Study area

Williston Reservoir watershed

Methods

Information for the problem analysis was compiled from a number of sources: literature, local trappers, resource managers, and furbearer experts. The literature was reviewed for the habitat use/selection and food habits of 8 furbearers: marten, fisher, wolverine, weasel, lynx, fox, coyote, and wolf. Information from local trappers was solicited via a questionnaire and an in-person meeting. Resource managers (wildlife and forestry) and furbearer experts were interviewed by phone or in-person.
