Adam Kreek was born in 1980 and grew up in London, Ontario. There, as a high school student, he got hooked on rowing.
That led him to the University of Victoria, where his rowing team won two Canadian University National Championships. From there Kreek headed to Stanford in California, where he was voted 2005 Athlete of the Year.
In 2008, Kreek won an Olympic gold medal at the Beijing Summer Games. His interest in environmental stewardship motivated him to secure sponsorships that allowed his team to travel and train carbon neutral, and he's building a business to convert waste vegetable oil into biodiesel.
Kreek lives in Victoria.
Kreek's big on biodiesel
Adam Kreek has embarked on a sideline as a public speaker because the nerves, the adrenaline, reminds you of the rowing race day rush.
He has also built a reactor that turns waste vegetable oil into biodiesel. He's a busy guy.
