The Story

Innovation Building Group's most recent project, Mountain's Edge, is B.C.'s first R2000 condominium community with 15 low-rise units. It incorporates every Power Smart package under the Power Smart New Home program, as well as a range of other energy-efficient building features.

The Results

• Each unit will save 7,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, resulting in total project savings of 105,000 kilowatt hours.
• All units include ENERGY STAR® labelled appliances, including front-loading clothes washers, compact fluorescent lighting and low-E argon windows.
• Heat loss will be substantially reduced through state-of-the-art framing and air sealing practices.
• Further efficiencies are gained through centralized hot water and a continuous mechanical ventilation system with a heat recovery ventilator.

Going Above & Beyond

• In the building process, Mountain's Edge followed R2000 guidelines to reduce site waste and recycle construction materials.
• Low toxicity finishes were used to reduce off-gassing and air quality impacts.
• They are committed to making their next development, Rainbow at Whistler, a Power Smart project, which will incorporate 350 energy-efficient housing units.
