Globe Electric had a big challenge to meet on a short deadline: to design and manufacture a new ENERGY STAR® approved compact fluorescent torchiere in time for the fall Power Smart lighting campaign.

In only a few months, more than 20 sea containers of ENERGY STAR labelled torchieres were shipped to B.C. for the campaign.

The results

• In 2005 Canada's first ENERGY STAR approved CFL torchieres were sold at Canadian Tire, Rona and London Drugs stores in B.C.
• By December 2005 over 6,500 halogen torchieres had been exchanged for the new CFL fixtures, accounting for over 1.8 GWh of annual energy savings.

Going above & beyond

• In 2005 the company introduced a new 13-watt ultra mini spiral CFL that consumes one-quarter the energy of the commonly used 60-watt incandescent, while providing the same amount of light.
• They've participated in BC Hydro's halogen torchiere recycling campaign to ensure that the returned fixtures are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
