APPLIANCE REBATES

Check back this spring for rebates offered on select energy efficient appliances. If you’re in the market for a new appliance, use the Energy Efficient Appliance Search Tool to find the products that are the most energy efficient.

Get rebates on appliances purchased between October 1 – 31, 2014

If you purchased an eligible clothes washer, dryer or refrigerator between October 1 – 31, 2014, you have 60 days from the purchase date to apply for your rebate. Follow the steps below to apply. All applications must be received within 60 days of purchase date in order to be eligible for a rebate.

Commercial customer? Qualifying businesses are eligible to apply. See below for details.

Municipality Rebates

Abbotsford/Mission

  • Residents of Abbotsford/Mission are eligible to receive $100 - $200 on the purchase of a qualifying clothes washer.
  • Customers will need to show their Property Tax Notice or a copy of their Bi-Monthly Utility Bill from the City of Abbotsford or District of Mission.

City of Richmond

  • Residents of Richmond are eligible to receive $100 - $200 on the purchase of a qualifying clothes washer.
  • Customers will need to include a before and after photo of their old and new clothes washer in place. Commercial customers are not eligible.

City of Vancouver

  • Residents of Vancouver are eligible to receive $75 - $125 on the purchase of a qualifying clothes washer.
  • No additional paperwork or documentation needs to be submitted by residents in order to qualify.

City of Nanaimo

  • Residents of Nanaimo are eligible to receive $100 - $200 on the purchase of a qualifying clothes washer.
  • No additional paperwork or documentation needs to be submitted by residents in order to qualify.

City of West Vancouver, North Vancouver and District of North Vancouver

  • Residents of the City of West Vancouver, North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver are eligible to receive $100 - $150 on the purchase of a qualifying clothes washer.
  • No additional paperwork or documentation needs to be submitted by residents in order to qualify.

How to get an appliance rebate

1. Complete the rebate application form online
  • Access and complete the rebate form online.
  • A copy of your completed form will be emailed to you.
  • Print, date and sign the form that is emailed to you.
2. Submit your form to BC Hydro for processing Option 1 – submit by email

Once you've completed the online application, you will receive an email with a copy of your completed form. Reply to this email with the following attachments included:

  • A scanned copy of your invoices/receipts showing the store name, product make, model number, purchase price or
  • A clear photograph of your purchase invoices/receipts showing the store name, product make, model number, purchase price
  • The neccessary documentation for municipality rebates

Option 2 – submit by mail

Once you've completed the online application, you will receive an email with a copy of your completed form. Print and sign the form. Attach copies of all invoices or receipts showing the store name, product make, model number, purchase price and purchase date to your printed and signed application form.

3. Track your rebate online
  • Use your reference number to track your rebate.
  • A rebate cheque is generally mailed within 10 to 12 weeks.


Commercial customers

Qualifying businesses are eligible to apply for rebates under the Appliance Rebate program on purchases made between October 1 – 31, 2014. Commercial customers must complete and submit the Rebate Application for Commercial Customers. See the program Terms and Conditions for Commercial Customers [PDF, 38 KB].

How eligible appliances are selected

  • Clothes washers with a Modified Energy Factor (MEF) of 3.0 are eligible for a $50 rebate.
  • Clothes washers with a Modified Energy Factor (MEF) of 3.4 are eligible for a $100 rebate.
  • Refrigerators that are 15% more efficient than the federal standard are eligible for a $50 rebate.
  • Refrigerators that are 20% more efficient than the federal standard are eligible for a $75 rebate.
  • Clothes dryers that are ENERGY STAR labelled are eligible for a $100 rebate.

Recycle your old appliances

Many small or large appliances can be recycled instead of going to the landfill. Visit the Recycling Council of British Columbia or contact the Recycling Hotline at 1 800 667 4321 to find out what can be recycled and where to recycle them.
