Residential Electric Vehicle Smart Charging
We're looking for customers with an electric vehicle and an existing Level 2 charging station to help us explore smart charging to reduce the demand on the electricity system during busy times. Smart charging adjusts charging levels on your electric vehicle based on how much energy is being demanded and used at a given time. By managing high times of energy use, we are hoping to reduce the need for new grid infrastructure in communities around the province.
To participate you must:
- Live in a single family home in the Metro Vancouver area with a garage
- Have an existing Level 2 charging station, installed on a 240V

How it works
You will be provided with a new Level 2 charger and a data logger device. This technology allows us to communicate with the charger and test various charging tactics such as delaying when a charge begins or allowing you to set a time when you need the vehicle charged by.
These testing times, also called "events" will be run during peak busy times which are Monday to Saturday, 6 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Events do not occur every day, but periodically throughout the one year project. Individual events may be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 6 hours.
You will be able to opt-out via the smart charge app if you wish to not participate in a smart charging event at any time.
