Implement Your Plan Make Text Larger Make Text Smaller Print This Page Bookmark and Share

Step 5

Now that your plan is approved, it is time to assemble the team, get their input, and make changes or improvements to your plan and budget, based on their input. Once this is done, you are ready to implement the plan. Here are some tips for a successful implementation:

  • Communicate, communicate, communicate! Remember to keep to the pacing you established in your schedule. Maintain the momentum and resist the urge to overload your audience with too much information.

The Power Smart Employee Awareness tools contain a number of samples, such as an email note, letter, poster, etc., to help you deliver your message. Use the materials for your campaign or clone them and create your own materials, customizing the messages to suit your needs.
  • Educate your employees/occupants/students in energy-conserving habits and behaviours. The first step in educating your employees or occupants is communicating the message. This needs to be followed up with giving them specific ideas on how to save energy. See the Employee Awareness Tips available in the Power Smart Employee Awareness Tools or the full list of Power Smart Tips. What you will be asking them to do is change the behaviour of a lifetime, so expect to have to repeat the message. When repeating it, variety is important.
  • Deliver the activities you and your team have selected.
  • Monitor the program and its effects, reporting to your stakeholders and management, and adjusting your plan as necessary.
  • Lead by example. One of the strongest ways to reinforce the Power Smart message is to lead by example. Your organization should consider completing a Power Smart Energy Awareness Program and implementing other conservation measures as normal operating practice. Information on our other programs is available throughout our site, but you can contact us with any questions.
