System Design

The Power Smart System Design offer is for new (or major retrofits) commercial, institutional or multi-unit residential buildings that can save at least 50,000 kWh. This offer allows customers and designers to investigate for energy efficient opportunities for specific building systems such as, refrigeration system, HVAC system and/or very large complex lighting design system. This offer also applies to building projects that are too far along in the design process to participate in the Whole Building Design offer, but have not yet gone to tender for the specific systems.

The offer

• Energy Study Funding. We will fund up to 100% of an energy study on pre-approved systems to develop a high-performance design that delivers energy savings compared with a conventional building design. BC Hydro will fund 50% for an approved energy study cost and an implementation bonus incentive for the remaining 50% if half of the savings identified / recommended in the energy study are implemented.
• Capital Incentives. If the energy efficiency measures in the system design involve added costs, then BC Hydro may also provide incentives to help qualified projects implement the improved design, based on the amount of savings the building will achieve.*

 * Minimum criteria apply. Projects are considered qualified once certain guidelines have been met.

Eligibility

The System Design offer is for new commercial or multi-unit residential buildings projects that are:

• Capable of saving at least 50,000 kWh
• Have not ordered or purchased the specific system
