OverviewThe British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) is leading an inquiry to consider electricity transmission infrastructure and capacity needs in British Columbia over the next 30 years. The inquiry will assess the electricity generation resources that will potentially be developed during this 30-year time period, and make determinations with respect to the need for, and timing of, additional transmission infrastructure and capacity. BC Hydro is participating in the Long-Term Electricity Transmission Inquiry (also referred to as the Section 5 Transmission Inquiry on the BCUC website) by supplying information about topics such as long-term electricity demand forecast in B.C., BC Hydro’s plans for meeting long-term electricity needs, and potential generation resource options in B.C. In addition, BC Hydro will be leading consultation with B.C. First Nations in coordination with British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC) regarding information that is being submitted to the Inquiry by BC Hydro and BCTC. Public participation is a key component of the Inquiry and is open to interested individuals and organizations. The BCUC will be producing a draft report of its determinations from the Inquiry by June 30, 2010. For further information on the Inquiry, including the full Terms of Reference, please visit the BCUC website. |
