Two substations on the west coast of Vancouver Island have gotten a $56-million upgrade that will provide reliable power to Ahousaht, Tofino and Ucluelet for decades. An event last Friday celebrated the end of the two-year construction project. Last week, we announced we're working with Clean Energy BC to help provide clean, reliable power for British Columbia well into the future. The new memorandum of understanding will help us work more cooperatively to plan how we're going to meet the growing demand for power. And as we prepare for storm season, we take a look at how we manage trees and plants around power lines, especially after a hot, dry summer.

50-year old substations get much-needed upgrades to support growth, reliability

Since 2013, crews have been upgrading Great Central Lake and Long Beach substations, which power communities along Vancouver Island's west coast. The substations were aging and thanks to the upgrades, they'll provide reliable power for another 30 years.
