Storm leaves thousands without power

Fallen tree during Shuswap Valley storm

BC Hydro crews have restored power to more than 14,000 customers in Salmon Arm and Kamloops who lost electricity service on Saturday due to heavy rain and strong winds. Crews are working to restore power to ten customers in the rural areas around Salmon Arm and are aiming to have them reconnected by Monday evening.

Power was restored to about 50 per cent of affected customers within the first hour of the storm. However, further restoration efforts were hampered by fallen trees that prevented crews from accessing roads.

Crews from Salmon Arm, Kamloops, Vernon, Merritt and Cache Creek helped to restore power and repair the damage. Clean up was extensive – crews worked to remove trees and branches off power lines, string wires and replace broken power poles.
