City of Abbotsford gets the street light it needs

BC Hydro crews installed a new high pressure sodium street light on Marshall Extension Road in Abbotsford last Friday.

The four-man crew required for the installation included: a power line technician (PLT) sub-foreman, one PLT and two apprentice PLTs. It took crews an hour to get the new light up, pull a new line over to the transformer on an adjacent pole, set up a guy wire and test the light.

The new light was ordered by the city of Abbotsford to improve visibility on a part of the road that did not have an existing street light. Pictured below in the bucket is PLT Chris Smith, and climbing the pole is apprentice PLT Ken Mitchell, both from the Abbotsford Line Room.
