Glitch in online payment system fixed

A glitch in BC Hydro's online credit card payment system has been fixed.

The glitch would only affect those customers who pay their bills using a credit card on BC Hydro's website.

BC Hydro uses a third party payment system, Kubra, to process credit card payments made by customers on their Hydro bills. A glitch in Kubra’s system was discovered and has been resolved: customer information was not being encrypted within the browser.

BC Hydro is not aware of any breach of customer account or credit card information.

For those customers who use Kubra to pay their bills usng a credit card, we recommend that people clear the brower history on the computer that was used to pay the bill. Note that most browsers automatically clear their history every 15 or 20 days. In public use spaces - like internet cafes and libraries - the browser is usually cleared as soon as someone new signs onto the computer.

We also recommend that customers check their credit card statement to make sure that there are no discrepancies on the bill.

We apologize for any concerns this may have caused customers who pay using Kubra.

If customers have any concerns or find any discrepancies, they should contact BC Hydro at 604-BC-HYDRO (604-224-9376) or 1-800-BC HYDRO (1-800-224-9376).

About 0.5 per cent of total payments received by BC Hydro are received through Kubra by customers using credit cards.
