Charles Reid appointed president & CEO of BC Hydro

VANCOUVER – The following is a statement from BC Hydro Chair Dan Doyle about the appointment of Charles Reid as president and chief executive officer of BC Hydro, effective immediately:

“Charles has served as our acting president and chief executive officer since last December. He has demonstrated to me and the Board that he is the kind of strong, steady leader we need at BC Hydro as we work to invest in British Columbia’s energy future while keeping our rates affordable and competitive for our customers. Charles is leading BC Hydro through the implementation of the recommendations of the Government Review which is accelerating our efforts to make the company more efficient while ensuring the reliability of our power supply and delivering on our commitment to safety.

“He is taking on this leadership role at an exciting time in BC Hydro’s history: we are making major investments in renewing our assets all across the province, advancing the addition of a significant new asset in the Site C clean energy project, modernizing our electricity grid, and planning to meet growing demand for electricity in B.C. through conservation and clean, reliable power.

“Charles has more than 35 years of experience in the manufacturing and utility fields and served as BC Hydro’s executive vice president and chief financial officer from 2008 until he took on the role of acting CEO in late 2011. Electricity is vital to our economic well-being and to our quality of life, and under Charles’ leadership, I am confident BC Hydro will continue to serve our customers well.”
