B.C. Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources Minister Blair Lekstrom, BC Hydro's newest conservation ambassador, will help Power Smart's Sonia Perez and Tanya Sucloy teach British Columbians about electricity conservation.

BC Hydro has a new conservation ambassador. We drafted Blair Lekstrom, B.C.'s Minister of Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources, to Team Power Smart this week.
The Minister joins other high profile British Columbians on the team such as basketball superstar Steve Nash, football legend Lui Passaglia and Premier Gordon Campbell.
We are trying to recruit 210,000 British Columbians to Team Power Smart and get them to commit to reduce their electricity consumption by at least 10%. Of course we offer tools and resources to help them reach that target.
Minister Lekstrom was drafted during a short ceremony at the Power Smart Forum, where hundreds of British Columbians had gathered to learn about energy conservation. He reinforced the importance of saving energy through simple behaviours by offering advice that he often gives to his children: "If you leave the room even for one minute, turn off the light because that is one minute of energy that won't be wasted."
It's a simple tip, but it's true. We are trying to get British Columbians to reduce their electricity consumption through basic behaviour changes. If conservation becomes a learned behaviour, we can create change in B.C. and have a true conservation culture – where conservation is just a way of life.
The Minister will be a great ambassador for conservation, whether he is in Victoria or at home in Dawson Creek. We know he already conserves and isn't shy about asking others to do the same.
