Now that we're experiencing colder weather across B.C., it's tempting to turn up the thermostat. But reaching for that dial has a real impact on the planet, not just on your wallet.
Leaving your heat on all day while you're out of the house is like leaving your car running all night just to have it warm for the morning.
Conserving energy plays a key role in reducing our environmental footprint. That's why we're proud to support World Wildlife Fund Canada (WWF) and their Sweater Day campaign. Join Canadians across the country in making a difference by sporting your sweater and turning down the heat on National Sweater Day: Thursday, February 9.
Turning down the thermostat doesn't just help reduce the impact of climate change — it's a great way to reduce wasted energy.
Using a programmable thermostat can help make it easy to heat your home efficiently. Reducing your thermostat temperature by just two degrees can reduce your home heating costs by 5%.
If you program your thermostat to set back the temperature by five degrees for eight hours of every night, you can save approximately 10% on your heating bill. If you also set back the temperature while you're away from home during the day, you'll see even bigger savings.
