Learn the 3 Keys of Electrical Safety, and share with others

Do you know what to do if you come across a power line on the ground? Do you know how far back to yourself and others?

Well, play our new mobile safety games, and you'll know soon enough.

We've launched three games to help you remember the 3 Keys of Electrical Safety. As we enter winter storm season, you'll want to keep these tips top of mind, and teach your family and friends how to stay safe.

Get started right now by playing the games on your mobile device.

Look up and down, quickly

Just like learning to cross the street as a child, the first key to staying safe around power lines is to look around you. In this game, you need to learn to spot electrical hazards (representing power lines) above and below.

The faster you swipe to hit the target hazards, the sooner you'll pass each level and advance.

Power lines aren't just up in the air. Before you dig in your yard or on other property (e.g. for landscaping or plumbing work), remember to make a free call to BC One Call to locate any underground electrical or gas lines on your property.

Call 604 257 1940 in the Lower Mainland, or 1 800 474 6886 toll-free elsewhere in B.C. Contacting hidden underground power lines, gas lines or conduits could be fatal.

Stay back at least the length of a bus

Always assume that power lines that have fallen on the ground are energized with electricity. Even if they're not smoking, sparking or making a buzzing sounds, power lines can be dangerous.

Learn to stay back by staying away from electrical hazards in this game. You'll need to move up and down as more hazards enter the screen. Just tap your mobile device to change the gravity and move your player up or down the screen.

If you come across a fallen power line, stay back at least 10 metres (about the length of a bus), and keep others away.

If you see a power line on the ground, call for help

Fallen or damaged power lines can be dangerous. The best thing to do if you see a fallen or damaged power line is to call for help.
