Taking on ambitious reduction targets, companies develop culture of efficiency

Awareness and knowledge about energy efficiency has been growing in B.C. year over year — but there's always something new to learn, another innovation to test.

That's one reason BC Hydro regularly recognizes a select group of companies as Power Smart Leaders. These are organizations that demonstrate the best of strategic energy management within their sector by meeting and exceeding their conservation targets.

The Power Smart Excellence Awards (PSEA) program includes categories recognizing everything from outstanding energy managers to individual energy efficiency projects. Power Smart Leader is the highest recognition possible.

"These customers are models of proactive energy conservation," says Alicia Henderson, program manager. "They help others see what can be accomplished when energy management and sustainability are made part of the core culture of an organization."

This year there are five organizations who have qualified as finalists in the Power Smart Leader category, with successful Leaders to be announced at the award ceremony on October 16. Details of their accomplishments are below, with more available online in the PSEA section of bchydro.com.
