BC Hydro Power Smart joins Tourism Vancouver in greening of city

Vancouver already enjoys a healthy profile as a sustainable tourism destination, but with the help of BC Hydro, Tourism Vancouver is out to deepen its commitment to energy efficiency and conservation.

The focus of the partnership is to help member businesses save money and reduce consumption through BC Hydro Power Smart’s conservation program. Power Smart programs will help the Vancouver tourism industry contribute to the BC Energy Plan goal of B.C. electricity self-sufficiency by 2016.

Tourism Vancouver has identified green practices as an important component of the association’s long-term strategic plan. It  strives to grow tourism in an environmentally friendly way, increasing economic impact while being mindful of the resulting footprint.

Tourism Vancouver is encouraging all of its 1,000 business members to participate in Power Smart programs and initiatives, including the Product Incentive Program, employee awareness workshops and other conservation activities.

Workshop set for November 13

Tourism Vancouver members get a chance to learn more about Power Smart programs and the case for energy efficiency at a Business Case for Conservation  workshop on November 13.

The session will also provide:

  • A primer on energy-efficient lighting;
  • A guide to engaging employees to save energy;
  • Tips on establishing and maintaining the path to energy efficiency.
