A strong season so far, for me and for Canada

Lauren Woolstencroft smilesHi and welcome to my new diary documenting my journey towards the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games!

I have a unique opportunity to work here at BC Hydro and help work on the design for the distribution infrastructure for the 2010 mountain venues and at the same time compete on Team Canada with hopes to make it to the podium in 2010 in alpine skiing.

It's been a busy but exciting season so far. After months of training in the summer and fall both on and off snow, I've spent much of December and January racing in Austria, Spain and Italy. And it's been going really well.

Right now I'm sitting first in the World Cup standings and I'm hoping to hold on to that spot for the rest of the season. Team Canada is also sitting in first place in the Nations Cup standings – this is the first time in history we have ever done this – so we are all working really hard and hoping to end this season off in a strong position as we work work towards next season and the 2010 Winter Games.

Lauren Woolstencroft skis around a poleRight now I'm in Korea preparing for the World Championships, which start February 19 and run through March 1. World Championships, much like Paralympic Winter Games, always bring the best competitors out so I'm looking forward to some good competition here.

I encourage you to write me with any questions you may have, and I'll try to address them in upcoming diary entries.

Thanks for reading!
