Residential Inclining Block Application filed with BCUC

VANCOUVER – As previously announced in its Revenue Requirements Application filing last week, BC Hydro today filed with the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) a Residential Inclining Block rate application, which is a two-step rate structure designed to encourage residential customers to conserve electricity. This proposal is revenue neutral to BC Hydro.

The proposed conservation rate will establish a base Step-1 rate for electricity consumption up to 1,600 kilowatts-per-hour (kWh) in each two-month billing period, and a marginally higher Step-2 rate for all electricity consumed over that base amount during a two-month billing period. The 1,600 kWh threshold is slightly lower than the average consumption of residential customers.

The new residential rate structure requires the approval of the BCUC. BC Hydro is proposing that the two-step rate become effective on October 1, 2008.
