BC Hydro announces funding for LiveSmart BC, making energy conservation easier and affordable

Vancouver – BC Hydro Power Smart is investing $6.5 million into a program that offers home audits and product rebates for homeowners to conserve energy and improve the comfort of their homes.

The LiveSmart BC: Efficiency Incentive Program is a comprehensive energy assessment and retrofit program that includes rebates and incentives for weatherproofing, insulation, windows, ventilation, as well as space and water heating – all of which can help reduce heating costs and overall energy use.

"LiveSmart BC puts tools and resources into the hands of British Columbians, making energy conservation practical and achievable," said Richard Neufeld, Minster of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. "Little changes can go a long way for families in B.C. wanting to reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint."

To participate, homeowners can arrange for a subsidized energy assessment with a certified energy advisor to identify how they can improve their home's energy performance. Families can then choose which upgrades to implement and receive related financial incentives. More details are available at www.LiveSmartBC.ca.

"Energy conservation will play a key role in helping our province meet its future energy needs and individual British Columbians can make a difference," said BC Hydro President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Elton. "Thanks to BC Hydro's partnership with LiveSmart BC and our existing suite of Power Smart programs, conserving energy is now easier than ever."

LiveSmart BC is a part of the provincial government's Energy Efficient Buildings Strategy, which leverages more than $160 million in funding and sets out new, ambitious targets to maximize efficiency, conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The strategy encourages the use of energy efficiency measures in homes, businesses, communities and governments.
