More Power Smart incentives now available to New Westminster customers

NEW WESTMINSTER – Residents and businesses in New Westminster will now be able to take advantage of increased energy savings, both at home and the office, through BC Hydro's Power Smart programs. The availability of program incentives are a result of a recent Memorandum of Agreement that allows BC Hydro to offer the full complement of its Power Smart programs to the City's electricity customers. The agreement was approved at yesterday's New Westminster City Council's Regular Council meeting.

"We are pleased that City of New Westminster customers are now eligible to participate in all Power Smart programs, as increased energy savings will go a long way to helping us fill the growing gap between supply and demand here in B.C.," said BC Hydro's Director of Power Smart, Lisa Coltart. "We applaud the City of New Westminster for their commitment to supporting conservation and energy efficiency."

"The City of New Westminster is committed to energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supports BC Hydro Power Smart's conservation efforts. The Memorandum of Agreement solidifies BC Hydro's and the City's partnership in conservation," said New Westminster City Official Rod Carle, General Manager of the Electric Utility Commission, "We look forward to working with Power Smart on many more energy saving initiatives and programs in the coming months."

City of New Westminster customers who are interested in participating in Power Smart programs should contact BC Hydro Customer Care at 604 453-6400, or contact their BC Hydro Key Account Manager.

"Partnerships of this nature only help to move our City forward in the area of energy conservation" says City of New Westminster Mayor, Wayne Wright. Conservation is the first and best way to help meet B.C.'s future electricity needs.

Power Smart is a cost-effective initiative that assists customers in conserving electricity, thereby saving them money and reducing further impacts on the environment.
