New windows must meet efficiency standard in B.C.

Thinking about buying new windows? All windows, except those with solid wood frames, are now required to be tested to meet the BC Energy Efficiency Act.

A permanent label containing a registered trademark or certification organization symbol is required to verify the window meets the energy efficiency standard.

Look for the temporary label on most windows with U-value of 2.0 or less. U-value is an overall heating loss rating – the lower the U-value, the more efficient the window.

Consider purchasing ENERGY STAR®-labelled windows. They’re an excellent long-term investment for your family and home as they:

  • increase comfort;
  • protect against sun damage;
  • reduce condensation and outside noise;
  • lower your heating bill.
