Chefs compete to be 2009 chowder champion at Vancouver Aquarium

VANCOUVER – Ocean Wise, a Vancouver Aquarium program that educates consumers about sustainable seafood, is staging its second annual Chowder Chowdown on Nov. 25.

Ten B.C. chefs will compete for the title of 2009 Ocean Wise chowder champion.

Visitors can dine on the chowders, which will be paired with local beers chosen by the chefs.

There will also be beer tastings offered by members of the Craft Brewers Association of B.C.

Tickets for the event, held at the aquarium in Stanley Park, are $35. Last year’s winner was chef Quang Dang of Vancouver’s C seafood restaurant.

Ocean Wise works with restaurants and others in the food industry to make "ocean-friendly" buying decisions. It defines sustainable seafood as species that are caught or farmed in a way that ensures the long-term health and stability of that species and the marine ecosystem.
