Westwood Mennonite Brethren Church saves $1,200 in electricity costs

August 23, 2006

PRINCE GEORGE – A local church will save more than $1,200 a year in electricity costs thanks to BC Hydro's Product Incentive Program. The Power Smart program offers businesses financial incentives for installing energy-efficient products to replace existing inefficient technologies.

The Westwood Mennonite Brethren Church implemented a lighting retrofit this year to switch to energy-efficient lighting technology. The church received almost $2,000 in incentives from BC Hydro and will save close to 25,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year.

"Making your operation more energy efficient doesn't have to involve huge, capital-intensive energy projects," said Power Smart Marketing manager Jim Nelson. "There are many small, easy upgrades that any company can do to save energy and money and benefit its bottom line."

In addition to lighting, the Product Incentive Program also provides incentives for products related to controls, sensors and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. For a complete list of products or to determine if your business is eligible, see our Product Incentive Program information or call 1 866 522-4713.

As demand grows in B.C., BC Hydro expects Power Smart will play a leading role in ensuring we continue to deliver reliable, low-cost power into the future.
