Launching in September 2009, two new initiatives for small industrial customers can translate into more opportunities for energy efficiency and for Alliance members to share their knowledge.
Created with the needs of small industrial customers in mind, the Industrial Lighting Initiative for Small Industrial Customers and the Compressed Air Initiative for Small Industrial Customers are designed to make energy efficiency upgrades more accessible, both in terms of understanding what’s required and how to meet the related costs.
The Industrial Lighting Initiative, is targeted to BC Hydro industrial customers who spend between $50,000 to $200,000 on electricity per year. Here’s how it works: Customers can ask the Power Smart Alliance to refer an Alliance member to conduct a walkthrough of their facilities to assess the potential for improved energy conservation. The Alliance member then calculates the possible savings and estimated cost of improvements. Following this analysis, customers can apply for funding incentives to cover up to 75 per cent of improvement costs.
The Compressed Air Initiative, is geared for customers with compressed air systems between 40hp and 200hp. Similar in process to the Industrial Lighting Initiative, Alliance members with expertise in compressed air systems are referred to small industrial customers to assess their compressed air systems for inefficiencies. After completing a facility walkthrough, the Alliance member will monitor the system for one week to analyze energy consumption and air profile. Drawing on the results, the member will prepare a report that recommends efficiency upgrades and details the potential savings and project implementation costs. Based on the savings potential, Power Smart will offer funding of up to 75 per cent of upgrade costs.
Detailed brochures outlining these exciting new initiatives will be available soon in the Resources section of the Alliance website. To find out how you can participate or for more information, please contact Bill Atamanchuk or call 604 453 6320.
