During the last few months, there have been important updates to various Power Smart Programs. Some of the changes that impact Alliance members are listed below.
Power Smart Partners projects that involve T8 lighting must now meet new T8 Lighting Product Performance Criteria [PDF, 60 Kb]. This change is in response to the federal government’s new Energy Efficiency Regulations for fluorescent lamps and ballasts. Additional details are available in the Power Smart Partners section.
Recent enhancements to Power Smart’s High Performance Building Program enable builders involved in commercial construction projects over 50,000 square feet to now choose from two options: Whole Building Design or Prescriptive Lighting, which focuses on energy efficient lighting. Buildings from 6,000 to 50,000 square feet continue to be eligible for the Prescriptive Lighting option.
In addition, these changes may result in more than a few starry-eyed customers. New multi-unit residential buildings featuring Energy Star appliance packages are now eligible for rebates. Appliances that bear the Energy Star (link to www.energystar.gov) designation are recognized across North America as among the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly products on the market.
