Learning more about innovative conservation solutions and the latest energy efficiency technologies once again proved to be a powerful draw to BC Hydro’s Power Smart Forum. Building on the success of past events, the 2011 Power Smart Forum was the most popular to date, attracting a record number of delegates and speakers to the Vancouver Convention Centre to discuss climate change adaptation and resilience in BC and globally, and how it relates to existing strategies for energy conservation and efficiency.
From October 17 to 19, 2011, 1300 delegates from the industrial, commercial and community sectors engaged in dozens of workshops and sessions led by conservation experts from across North America. The sessions were organized into three convenient streams – Commercial/Institutional, Community/Government and Industrial – enabling participants to explore a wide range of topics, from energy management through social marketing, to how to generate business results through conservation.
Highlights of the event included a plenary panel session entitled “Resilience & Adaptation: Adjusting to a Changing Climate in B.C.” and Gwynne Dyer’s keynote address, “Hot, Hungry and Hostile: The Geopolitics of a Warming World.” Archived live webcasts of these two events are available online.
Alliance members who attended the event also enjoyed numerous opportunities to network with colleagues and industry experts throughout the three-day event and the Power Smart Forum Tradeshow. Their member firm also received one Event credit towards their membership requirements.
Planning is already underway for the 2013 Power Smart Forum, which will take place at the Vancouver Convention Centre from October 21 – 23, 2013. We look forward to seeing you there!
