e.Catalog Gets a Makeover

Some things definitely get better with age. The e.Catalog is boasting a variety of new features designed to enhance the users’ experience.

The e.Catalog is an online catalog of energy efficient products targeted to commercial customers, contractors, consultants, distributors and manufacturers. One of Power Smart’s most popular – and effective – energy conservation tools, it currently features more than 250 manufacturers and over 10,000 energy efficient products.

In an effort to enhance the user’s e-Catalog experience, last year we sought input from Alliance members about what aspects of the online tool worked well, and what needed improvement. Thanks to your feedback and participation in subsequent usability testing, we have been able to identify and rectify performance and functionality gaps. Improvements include:

  • User-friendly layout that showcases energy efficient products with required technology and product photo
  • Stronger search capability, allowing users to search by key product attributes, manufacturers and product categories,
  • A list of technology conversions that qualify for PIP incentives and the matching incentive available for each technology conversion
  • PDF downloads available for products eligible for each incentive
  • Product update page to see e.Catalog’s newest additions

The new and improved e-Catalog was launched last winter, and judging by comments and response to date, the improvements are a smashing success: e.Catalog monthly visits alone have jumped by more than 300 per cent. Watch for more improvements in the coming months, including functionality that enables users to export the PIP product list to CSV format; and an e.Catalog “how-to” book for easy reference and for new users.  As always, we welcome your suggestions about further improvements.

Many thanks to all those Alliance members who offered their time and feedback to help us make this tool an even more valuable resource.
