BC Hydro helps fill a growing electricity gap
December 2006 - The people of BC have for years been using more electricity than we produce, and that gap keeps growing. British Columbia ranks as one of Canada’s greenest and most environmentally friendly provinces, and still we face an emerging energy challenge that will require the efforts and commitment of all British Columbians to solve.
BC Hydro is playing its part to build a secure energy future for generations to come. Although there are many issues to consider when planning for the province’s energy future, the company aims to close the electricity gap in three fundamental ways: conserve more by encouraging the efficient and wise use of energy; buy more through the exploration of independent power producers; and build more by reinvesting and modernizing the province’s existing heritage hydro assets.
