The Alliance was originally formed in 2002 as a resource for BC Hydro customers looking for industry firms that provided energy efficiency-related services. As the conservation movement gained momentum, so did interest in the Alliance, both in terms of the size of its membership and the scope of its activities.
The Alliance serves its membership through a blend of learning and business opportunities. In addition to overseeing a referral process that identifies which member firms are eligible for specific jobs, the Alliance advocates for, and assists members through initiatives that support industry practice and equip members in proposing effective energy efficient solutions. Members enjoy a wide range of benefits, from association with the Power Smart brand to access to the latest industry developments.
BC Hydro also looks to the Alliance’s member firms as ambassadors for energy efficiency who, in the last decade, have played an important role in helping the corporation meet its conservation goals. Power Smart staff works closely with industry to develop and implement initiatives for the commercial and industrial sectors that not only support customers’ needs, but also make energy conservation an attractive option.
Today, Alliance members are recognized as powerful influencers in the adoption of energy efficient solutions. Current membership is drawn from manufacturers, distributors, contractors, consulting engineers, architects and other organizations focused on industrial and commercial energy conservation, with each industry sector having its own membership requirements. Membership is free and open to all industry firms that meet the Alliance’s eligibility criteria.
