BC Hydro and Biomass Generation
BC Hydro has entered into an electricity purchase agreement for a proposed biomass project that meets detailed green criteria and that will be built by an independent power producer. We also support the development of wood residue technologies, to encourage forest industry producers to increase their electricity production. There is the opportunity for sawmills and pulp mills to produce all their own electricity with wood residue, greatly reducing overall air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions at the same time.
Hydro also assessed the potential of wood residue and biomass as part of BC Hydro's BC Green Energy Study.
