Businesses will get notification in advance

All customers will receive advance notification that smart meters are coming to their community, including a letter from BC Hydro [PDF, 227 KB] a few weeks prior to their installation date notifying them of the exchange.

Please see below for important information about getting ready for your smart meter installation.

Preparation checklist

  1. Please provide access to the meter.
  2. On the day of the meter exchange, we will arrive at your business and notify you before we exchange the meter.
  3. Tell the people in your workplace about the smart meter installation, as there may be a brief power interruption, typically lasting 60 seconds.

What to expect on installation day

Installers will be clearly identifiable

BC Hydro and Corix, our B.C.-based authorized contractor, will be installing smart meters in homes and businesses across the province. Corix has been contracted to perform meter installations and has broad local knowledge and experience installing meters.

Corix employees will be clearly identifiable by signs on their vehicles, logos on their uniforms, and photo identification badges.

We'll arrange a convenient time to perform the meter exchange

In order to minimize disruptions to your business operations, we’ll arrange a convenient time with you to perform the meter exchange. Typically, the meter exchange takes about 15 minutes. For business customers, if you prefer, you can pre-schedule an appointment for your meter exchange. Please contact Corix at 1 888 495 2767 for more information.

Some businesses will experience a brief power interruption

You may experience a 60-second power outage. Please refer to your notification letter to see if your business will experience a power outage during the meter exchange.

After your new meter is installed

Once your new smart meter has been installed, you will receive a brochure [PDF, 749 KB] that includes more information about the Smart Metering Program and how it benefits you.

You don't need to do anything at all to activate your new smart meter.
