The majority of the packages associated with the Ruskin Project were advertised publicly on BC Bid and went through a competitive RFP process. It is BC Hydro intent to package the civil work and equipment supplies to ensure safe and efficient implementation of the project with the minimum impact on the community and the environment. Status of major contractsThe British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) granted a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the Ruskin Dam and Powerhouse Upgrade Project on March 30, 2012. The decision means BC Hydro may now begin construction. BC Hydro expects to begin project construction this spring.
Information about the results of the public competitive procurement process for major Ruskin Project packages will be made available to the public and organizations in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, legislation and BC Hydro governing acts and procurement policies. Local opportunitiesBC Hydro is working with local businesses and the community to facilitate opportunities for local involvement. For example, the Mission Chamber of Commerce has developed a Mission Handbook for Major Projects. BC Hydro will be distributing this handbook to its local offices and contractors working in the area.
