Units expected ready in 2014 and 2015

Construction will begin in spring 2011. Unit 5 is anticipated to be in-service by October 2014 and Unit 6 is targeted to be online in 2015.

Five steps for each unit, from draft tube to switchgear

Work to start in 2011Onsite work at Mica Generating Station has started with preparatory work to set up the construction camp and work areas.

Construction work for each unit will be staggered and involve the following main steps:

  • Install draft tube and embed in concrete;
  • Install spiral case that houses the turbine, and imbed it in concrete;
  • Deliver and install the new turbine;
  • Install the generator;
  • Supply and install the switchgear and other electrical equipment; and
    Commission and test the generating unit.

Construction will begin in spring 2011. Unit 5 is anticipated to be in-service by October 2014 and Unit 6 is targeted to be online in 2015.

The Mica 5 Project will also involve construction of a new capacitor station near Seymour Arm. The capacitors are needed for reliable electrical transmission.
